Many supermarkets have made changes to their opening hours to make sure staff can restock shelves safely and to allow priority access for the elderly and vulnerable, as well as NHS staff.

Here are the changes the most popular UK supermarkets have made.


Aldi

All stores closing early at 8pm.

Sainsbury's

• NHS and social care workers: 7:30am-8am (Monday to Saturday)

• Elderly, disabled customers and carers: 8am-9am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday

• Prioritising online delivery slots of elderly and disabled customers. If you think you should be on their vulnerable customer list please contact Sainsbury's on 0800 328 1700.

• Vulnerable and elderly customers and those who look after them: 9am-10am on Monday and Wednesday (excluding Tesco Express stores)

• NHS staff: Additional hour every Tuesday and Thursday. 1 hour browsing time before checkouts open on Sunday

Waitrose

• Elderly and vulnerable customers: First hour of trading

• Prioritising online delivery slots of elderly and vulnerable customers

• NHS staff: Waitrose will be putting aside a portion of fast-selling essential items and groceries for NHS staff. NHS staff will also receive priority treatment once at the checkout.
